Corporate & Commercial team
The Commercial Property team acts on a variety of different commercial transactions including asset management,acquisitions and disputes. The team represent a wide variety of clients including businesses,individuals, leading house builders and developers, pension funds, retailers, restaurateurs,lenders and local authorities.
The team is supported by 8 secretaries who provide secretarial and administration support to fee earners across the practice area.
The role will involve providing secretarial assistance to two solicitors within and across the Commercial Property team.
Ideally prospective candidates will have prior legal secretarial experience working within
Commercial Property practice.
- To ensure the smooth flow of documents and correspondence in and out of the Department.
- To type legal documents either from hand-written notes or by transcribing digital dictation.
- Scan, email and fax correspondence and documents as required.
- Undertake file management including opening and closing files and filing all relevant documents.
- Photocopying including preparing trial bundles.
- Answer the telephone, routine calls and taking new enquiries and messages.
- Manage the Fee Earners diary, organising internal and external meetings.
- Undertake on-line searches (TM / Search Choice)
- General typing including completion statements, searches, land registry forms etc.
- It is expected that, in accordance with business needs, you will provide support to other secretaries in your department or across the firm by picking up work or covering at times when your work load is light or your usual fee earner is away from the office for whatever reason or at times of urgent business need.
- Any other reasonable duties assigned from time to time.
Specialist Skills Required
Excellent IT skills in particular Word. Basic Powerpoint and Excel would also be
Personal Skills Required
Interest in legal matters and understanding of the need for confidentiality.
Would ideally suit an applicant with Legal Secretarial experience with property exposure
A well-organised, careful, conscientious approach.
Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines, planning time and priorities.
Clear speaking and writing.
Good grammar and grasp of the English language - spelling, punctuation and
Attention to detail
Enjoy contact with others, good social skills including tact, patience, understanding
Good standard of general education, especially English.
Numerate and literate
Word processing skills/qualification.
Training as legal secretary or relevant qualification.
