Job Purpose:

To undertake day to day financial tasks as a key part of the Resources Department, working closely with one other Finance Officer and the Senior Finance Officer to provide accounting and payroll functions, and liaising with other staff and external organisations as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing a first point of contact for the Finance Department giving advice or offering a signposting service for staff with payroll or finance enquiries.
  • To lead on day to day administration of the sales ledger including preparation of invoices, posting and reconciling balances, and chasing payment of outstanding payments
  • Day to day administration of the purchase ledger including posting supplier invoices, reconciling account balances, making payments using internet banking facilities and ensuring all postings are correctly coded.
  • Posting payments and receipts, performing bank and petty cash reconciliations, and checking that petty cash payments are correctly coded.
  • Checking and posting staff expenses and ensuring they are paid in a timely fashion.
  • Preparing and entering the monthly payroll, checking documentation and ensuring payments entered on computerised payroll software.
  • An involvement in the preparation of the monthly management accounts, and yearend accounts, entering prepayments and accruals, and ad hoc journals as required.
  • Assisting with providing budget reports as required and aiding managers in understanding and monitoring their budgets.
  • Providing a first point of contact for the Finance Department giving advice or offering a signposting service for staff with payroll or finance enquiries.
  • Preparing ad hoc reports and reconciliations as required
  • To assist with general office duties including dealing with e-mails, correspondence, incoming post and general enquiries by phone or in person.


  • To attend and participate in regular supervision, in line with the supervision policy. Participate in annual performance appraisals, training and internal meetings
  • Become familiar with, and work within, the policies, procedures and protocols of the company
